In this week’s double parashah we find the well-know commandment “Love your neighbour as you love yourself” (Leviticus 19:18). Rabbi Akiva taught that this precept is the most important rule in the Torah.
In this week of commemoration and celebration – with Yom Ha-Zikaron and Yom Ha’Atzmaut – as we honour the soldiers who fight for the State of Israel and the victims who lost their lives in its defence, we celebrate our community as a whole and we pay tribute to the individuals whose unique qualities enrich us and strengthen us.
